Reverend Brenda M. Torrie
May 19, 2015 I graduated from Claremont School of Theology with a Masters of Divinity degree. This is my third year at Redlands First UMC. Beginning as a seminary student intern in 2013, moving to the halftime associate position a year later, and happily, now appointed as full-time associate pastor serving with Pastor J.T. Greenleaf. My wonderful husband of 30 years has supported me through the last seven years of an undergraduate degree at Chapman University and my Masters degree. My calling to this congregation blends my love of thoughtful worship, including contemplative Taizé and Messy Church, a commitment to ministry In-reach (pastoral care, spiritual formation classes such as Parent Group) and, Outreach (Showers of Blessings and Guatemala co-projects), and my love of relationship with people of all ages. Illustrating this are my previous careers working with adults and children with developmental disabilities and mental illness, people requiring social assistance, and delightful and curious preschoolers. Our Time with Children is one of my favorite moments in worship.
My ministry is enriched by my sense of fun, creative resourcefulness, and joy of trying the “untried.” I would love to meet you and see what exciting places your ideas for ministry will reach, with a full congregation journeying along with you. In the spirit of Christ…
